Grantmakers already play an integral role in shaping public life. We do this with our funding, capacity building initiatives, data collection/evaluation and mission investing. Public policy work and support offers another important tool to add to this repertoire.

Early results from a recent MPC survey indicate that many in our network have identified public policy as an important strategy to increase the impact of their work. However, few have taken any concrete steps and many are not sure where and how to start.

MPC's Public Policy Task team has spent the past six months outlining the the promise, value proposition, definitions and parameters for philanthropic engagement in public policy. Their recent report, Public Policy: A Path to Greater Impact, contains conclusions and recommendations for how philanthropy in Maine might best advance our collective action in the public policy arena.

Watch the recording to hear more about the Public Policy team's work, what public policy involvement might mean, and why it’s important.
