Philanthropy 201 is a three-module funder cohort series that helps staff in philanthropy deepen understanding of themselves and their role within the social sector. Designed as a companion to the Philanthropy 101 series, Philanthropy 201 explores the next level of what it means to work (and lead) in the philanthropic sector. The primary goals of this virtual, interactive course are to provide participants with:

  • approaches to shifting power
  • practical ways of applying an equity and inclusion lens to their work
  • practical tools that can support their effectiveness in their role
  • access to leaders within the field of philanthropy
  • an exploration of leadership at all levels in an organization in addition to the leadership role funders can play beyond grantmaking

Philanthropy 201 takes place over three weekday mornings that run from mid-April 2024 through late-May 2024. This cohort series is relevant to staff in any position at a grantmaking organization. Each module builds on the previous one and themes are connected throughout the series. Participants are expected to attend the entire series. Additionally, participants are expected to engage in post-presentation discussion groups with an assigned Learning Pod to explore content/presentation topics more deeply. These will last for 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of closing conversation.
