While traditional systems and institutions often fail immigrants with disabilities, the very systems designed to support them often fall short as well. Disability justice community leaders whose lived experiences and shared identities, along with those who have expertise at these intersections, have vital perspectives to share and are leading the work of building a more accessible and inclusive world. The disability rights movement's "nothing about us, without us," approach informs all aspects of disability community organizing, and this approach must include communities of immigrants with disabilities who face additional barriers to full participation in society. Disability justice means that no one is left behind in the fight for liberation.
In this webinar, funders will learn from disability justice leaders implementing strategies at the intersections of disability and immigration justice. Disability justice offers a framework for grassroots organizers and practitioners in the field doing cross-movement work. This framework underscores the ways in which collective liberation can dismantle systemic biases, including ableism.
