Corporate funders gather to discuss the business of giving.

This event has already occurred.

On June 16th, corporate and small business funders gathered with their colleagues for this program about the business of giving. Local and national-profile companies, large and small, shared and discussed their definitions of Return on Investment:

  • What role does sponsor recognition play in corporate/nonprofit partnerships?
  • What is a realistic expectation of impact from your gifts and grants?
  • How can small businesses maximize the impact of their giving?
  • What can large corporate giving programs learn from small businesses?
  • How can Maine businesses best work with nonprofits to make Maine a better place to live, work, and play?

Karen Voci, Executive Director of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation kicked off the conversation by sharing how Harvard Pilgrim is thinking about this topic.

Karen referred to the following Harvard Business Review article in her presentation:

The Truth About CSR by V. Kasturi Rangan, Lisa Chase, and Sohel Karim.
From the January - February 2015 issue of Harvard Business Review.

Reflections followed from a diverse cross section of business leaders including:

Group discussion allowed attendees to explore where their company falls on the return on investment continuum and along the way consider some of the following questions:

  • Why do we give? How does it help our company meet our goals? How does the size of our company impact our approach to giving?
  • What role does employee engagement and brand enhancement play in our giving strategy? What does "return on investment" mean to us?
  • How do we plan for and monitor these investments as an extension of our corporate identity?

This event was intended for business leaders, charitable giving officers and those responsible for making giving and employee engagement decisions.

We proudly sponsor this MPC program as a value to our corporate colleagues:
