Tuesday, September 5, 2023

Nonprofit organizations that support Greater Portland may be eligible for grants from the Maine Community Foundation’s (MaineCF) Rines Thompson Fund at the Maine Community Foundation.

The fund supports organizations focused on the environment and conservation, early childhood and youth programming, and arts and culture. In 2022, the fund awarded 23 grants totaling $133,055.

Last year’s grantees include:

  • Ketcha Outdoors, for its youth internship program
  • League of Women’s Voters of Maine Education Fund, to promote student civic engagement and leadership
  • Woodfords Family Service, to ensure students with special needs have access to transportation.

The deadline to submit proposals is Sept. 15. For more information and to apply, visit Contact Program Officer Katie Howard with questions at or 207-412-0832.

The children and grandchildren of Henry P. and Adeline B. Rines established the fund to give back to the community that has supported businesses owned by the Rines/Thompson family, including the Congress Square Hotel, the Eastland Hotel, WCSH Radio and WCSH Television.

The Maine Community Foundation brings people and resources together to build a better Maine through strategic giving, community leadership, personalized service, local expertise and strong investments. To learn more about the foundation, visit
