Thirty Greater Portland organizations received a total of $146,750 in funding through Maine Community Foundation’s (MaineCF) Rines Thompson Fund. An additional $23,500 was awarded to organizations through donor-advised funds at MaineCF.

Organizations awarded funding include Friends of Congress Square Park, which will use its $6,000 grant for public programming such as concerts, films, markets and to expand its winter programming. The Maine Audubon Society was awarded $5,000 to engage children in learning about and restoring green spaces near their homes and schools. Another $7,500 went to Portland Parks Conservancy, for its second year of the Portland Youth Corps. The program gives teens opportunities to care for the environment, gain leadership experience and earn a stipend.

The Rines Thompson Fund was established in 1999 by the children and grandchildren of Henry P. and Adeline B. Rines to benefit the people of Greater Portland. The next grant cycle opens September 15. For more about the fund, visit www.mainecf.org.
