Grant Research
The most important piece of finding a funder that is a good fit for your organization is doing thorough research. We are happy to offer nonprofits in Maine resources and help related to grant research.
The Directory of Maine Grantmakers
The Maine Philanthropy Center produces a Directory of Maine Grantmakers with information on foundations that give in Maine. This Directory is available in an online version to all our Members, and is also for sale in a print version.
Funding Information Network Databases
Through our partnership with Candid, MPC has access to national databases of funders and grants at our office location in the USM Glickman Family Library.
Foundation Directory Essential is available for remote access throughout 2021 through our website (see link on right sidebar). Once on the site, you will be asked to create an account and sign up for a day pass. The day pass allows you to use Foundation Directory Essential remotely in a 24-hour window. There is a clock at the top of the screen that will tell you how much time remains in the pass. After the 24 hours, the clock will show the next date on which you can activate a new pass (every 30 days).
Since you will be able to create an individual account in Foundation Directory Essential, you will have access to the MyFDO features that were not previously available. You’ll be able to create dashboards, tag favorite grantmakers, and save searches, and return to these each time you activate a new pass. The day pass allows Candid to continue providing remote access in a secure and automated way to people all over the world.

We highly recommend coming to a free tutorial on using our resources to start your research process. You are also welcome to visit our office to use our resources-- please make an appointment as we have a small staff and want to ensure someone is here to help you. If you are looking for federal grant opportunities they will be listed at Grants.gov, and if you are not able to come into our office to utilize our database you can look at foundation tax forms using these resources.
