Introduction

Maine has seen a recent surge of activity around the promise of aquaculture to help Maine’s coastal communities remain resilient within a changing economy and environment. There are many organizations in Maine - private, non-profit and public institutions - that are involved in aquaculture work. From R&D to technology transfer to business development. This forum is an opportunity for individual donors, foundations, and private investors to better understand the current landscape of aquaculture in Maine and identify potential opportunities for support and investment.

Objectives

  1. Learn about the current landscape of aquaculture in Maine and various initiatives underway to grow the industry, exploring both the opportunities and the potential challenges this presents.
  2. Better understand the underlying values being considered in the field, including environmental sustainability, community benefit, quality jobs, and economic and social equity.
  3. Hear about the state of research and development, education initiatives and business development underway to support Maine’s aquaculture industry.
  4. Discover the potential of emerging business start-ups and new technologies and explore opportunities to create more resilient coastal communities by supporting the aquaculture industry.

Format

We will learn from experts in the field and also have an opportunity for an open discussion with other organizations working in the aquaculture space. A final agenda will be sent to registrants prior to the event

Speakers Include:

Sebastian Belle, Maine Aquaculture Association
Chris Davis, Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center
Briana Warner, Island Institute
Martha Bentley, Maine Technology Institute
