The Maine Community Foundation’s (MaineCF) Welch Charitable Fund has awarded $285,641 to 18 organizations that serve Greater Portland.
The fund supports organizations that assist people in need with preference to nonprofits focused on youth, education, health care, substance abuse recovery and/or arts and culture.
2023 grantees include:
- American Red Cross, to support renovations to its Southern Maine facilities
- Maine Historical Society, for development of the Riverside Collections Management Center to support expanded exhibitions, programs and organizational capacity
- Maine State Ballet, to upgrade the in-house Lopez Theater with new theater seating.
The Welch Charitable Fund was established as a private family foundation in 1983 and is advised by friends of the Welches. The foundation was transferred to the Maine Community Foundation in 2010. For more information and a complete list of grantees, visit www.mainecf.org/welch.
