Gubernatorial Forum Scheduled for September 26 Has Been Cancelled

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

September 18, 2018 - The Maine Association of Nonprofits and the Maine Philanthropy Center must regrettably announce today the cancellation of our gubernatorial forum scheduled for next Wednesday, September 26, at Husson University.  Our forum goal was to provide a robust slate of candidates with the opportunity to meet with the state’s nonprofit and philanthropic leaders and share their views on issues impacting our sectors.  Alan Caron and Terry Hayes both agreed to participate.  Janet Mills earlier accepted but in recent days has withdrawn.  Shawn Moody declined our invitation.  We are very disappointed that we were unable to achieve the full participation that we had hoped and thus have made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person event.  We will now turn our attention to offering an alternative format for achieving our original goal.

We will immediately extend an invitation to each individual candidate to participate in an hour-long webinar, where they will again have the opportunity to speak to our sectors and answer the questions originally prepared for the forum.  These webinars will be scheduled in the coming weeks at each candidate’s convenience.  We will then promote the live programming to our members and friends as well as make the recordings subsequently available across our networks.

Maine’s nonprofit and philanthropic networks are extremely grateful to the joint steering committee, whose members worked tirelessly to organize and plan for the forum, and to the 200+ members of our communities who registered and were planning to attend the event.  We regret any inconvenience that this cancellation may cause.
