Philanthropist Peter Alfond Dies

Maine philanthropist Peter Alfond died earlier this month at age 65. He contracted malaria on a recent trip to Africa with his family. Alfond was a retired senior executive of Dexter Shoe Company, a trustee of the Harold Alfond Foundation, and a philanthropist in his own right. He established the Peter Alfond Foundation in 1993, which gave in the areas of education, social services, and conservation. He was a member of the board of MaineGeneral Health and the Alfond Youth Center.
