Preparing Maine’s workforce: Education, adaptability and, often, relocation
MDF and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce are pleased to present Making Maine Work: Preparing Maine’s Workforce. This fifth report in the Making Maine Work series is the companion piece to Growing Maine’s Workforce, which was released last fall and looked at the ways in which we can grow Maine’s workforce. This new report addresses the quality of Maine’s workforce – the education, skills and knowledge Maine workers need to meet the needs of employers and create opportunities for themselves and others.
While many Maine workers remain unemployed or underemployed, Maine employers in a variety of industries struggle to find qualified workers. There are a number of positive efforts underway in the state. This report looks at how we can bring these best practices to scale and makes a number of recommendations around the broad themes of integration and collaboration; targeted marketing of opportunities; incentives; employee competencies; and, metrics and data.
