MaineCF’s Washington County Committee awards $107,000 in grants

The Washington County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded $107,542 in grants to 13 nonprofits through the Community Building Grant Program.

Grant recipients include:

  • Downeast Institute for Applied Marine Research and Education, Beals, to continue a preK-16 marine science education program adapted to COVID restrictions
  • Eastport Public Library Association, to expand staff hours necessary to maintain new protocols and modified services in response to COVID-19
  • Hand in Hand Mano en Mano, Milbridge, to support Rayitos de Sol, a start-up bilingual childcare program in Milbridge.

MaineCF donors also made nine additional grants totaling $53,764 from donor-advised funds.

Marking its 35th year of grantmaking, the Washington County Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects and nonprofits that strengthen communities in the county. Proposals are submitted through MaineCF’s Community Building Grant Program and are reviewed by a committee of local leaders. The next proposal deadline is February 15, 2022.
