MaineCF’s Piscataquis County Committee Award $40,000 in Grants

Tuesday, May 12, 2020

The Piscataquis County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded $40,850 in grants to five nonprofits.

Grant recipients include:

  • Appalachian Mountain Club, to expand hands-on, outdoor programming for students in Piscataquis County by offering a native Atlantic salmon raising and stocking program
  • Moosehead Trails, to expand the Moosehead Pinnacle Pursuit Hiking challenge by including a volunteer incentive program dedicated to trail maintenance and stewardship
  • RSU 68, to rebuild a nature trail near the school that would include inter-generational support and use from students and community members.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MaineCF staff worked remotely with available county/regional committee members to expedite review of proposals. Grant recipients have the choice of extending the period during which to complete the work originally proposed and/or the flexibility to use the funding in other ways to meet current, unexpected organizational needs.

The Piscataquis County Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects and nonprofits that strengthen communities in the county. Applications go through the foundation’s Community Building Grant Program and are reviewed by a committee of local leaders. The next proposal deadline is February 15, 2021. Application, guidelines and a complete list of 2020 grants can be found at www.mainecf.org.

The Piscataquis County Fund is built through donations from the community. If you would like more information about the fund, please contact Lelia DeAndrade, Vice President of Community Impact, at (207) 412-0843 or by email at ldeandrade@mainecf.org.
