MaineCF’s Peaks Island Fund seeks grant applications

Monday, May 9, 2022

Grants from the Peaks Island Fund at the Maine Community Foundation (MaineCF) are available for nonprofits that assist the island community.

Organizations or projects must serve Peaks Island community members within the next year and have potential for continuing impact on the community. The deadline for applications is June 1.

The Peaks Island Fund was created in 2004 and is supported through the generosity of island residents. Priorities of the fund include helping to reduce economic barriers to living on the island; providing or increasing access to educational and enrichment programs for youth; and preserving and protecting the built and natural environment, including projects that reduce energy consumption and increase year-round social and cultural resources for the community.

In 2021, the fund awarded $98,125 in grants to eight nonprofits, including:

  • Illustration Institute, $15,000, to support Illustration Institute’s general operations and programs that raise appreciation and awareness of illustration in its many art forms
  • New Brackett Memorial Church, $14,115, to enable completion of the second phase of the accessibility project by the installation of a handicap ramp
  • St. Christopher Parish, $10,000, to purchase and install a generator for the rectory where the community space is located.
