Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Maine Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $18,100 from its Hospice Fund to support five organizations providing hospice service programs in York and Cumberland counties.

Grantees include:

  • Dempsey Centers for Quality Cancer Care, to produce 12 legacy documentaries at the Dempsey Center in South Portland as part of an expanded effort to assist cancer patients at end-of-life
  • Harbour Singers, to build the capacity and sustainability of the hospice chorus and strengthen outreach and training activities
  • Hospice Help Foundation, to help impoverished hospice patients gain access to essential items.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MaineCF staff worked remotely with available committee members to expedite review of proposals. Grant recipients have the choice of extending the period during which to complete the work originally proposed and/or the flexibility to use the funding in other ways to meet current, unexpected organizational needs.

The next deadline for Hospice Fund grant proposals is February 15, 2021. Applications are encouraged from nonprofit organizations in Cumberland and York counties for projects that raise awareness of hospice and bereavement programs, increase utilization and/or quality of end-of-life services, and support hospice volunteers.
