Lincoln Academy Seeks Director of Development

Friday, March 1, 2019

Lincoln Academy, in Newcastle, ME seeks a creative, energetic, and multi-talented Director of Development to start on or before July 1, 2019.

About the Employer

Founded in 1801, LA is an independent Town Academy deeply rooted in the communities of central Lincoln County. Serving today as the “high school of record” for eight of these communities, LA currently draws from 15 other area towns as well, accepting all students from those towns. In addition to our local students, the school enrolls up to 90 international and more distant boarding students. This results in an exciting mix of students, and the school is committed to providing an outstanding education for each of them. Because the majority of the school’s income comes from tuitions paid by local towns, and that tuition is capped by the State (currently at $11,769), support from private individuals, local businesses and community members, and grants is critical to the school’s ability to offer the quality and range of programs and services it offers.

Position Description

The Director of Development oversees all aspects of this support, guiding and assisting groups of volunteers who help in the work. In particular, the Director is responsible for annual, capital, and planned giving; grant writing; community and alumni relations; event planning; and, working closely with the Head of School and members of the Board Development Committee, maintaining strong relationships with individuals and organizations in the greater Newcastle/Damariscotta community.  S/he is a member of the senior administrative team and reports directly to the Head of School.

Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of professional experience, preferably in a small shop where one is exposed to all aspects of development work; strong interpersonal and communication skills; proven ability to collaborate and to build strong teams; and database management experience are required. Familiarity with the Raiser’s Edge database and connections to the mid-Coast area are preferred. Lincoln Academy is an equal opportunity employer.
