Lauress Wilkins Lawrence Joins Staff of Elmina B. Sewall Foundation as Program Officer

The Elmina B. Sewall Foundation is pleased to announce that Lauress Wilkins Lawrence will join its staff as Program Officer on January 20, 2015.

Lauress comes to the Sewall Foundation with an impressive background and deep range of experience in community outreach, social justice, education, international service and grant making.  For the past two decades, Lauress has served both as a faculty member and program director at Regis College near Boston.  There she taught Religious Studies and Philosophy, as well as courses in Women’s Studies, History, and Spanish.  She also served Regis as its multicultural advisor and directed the college’s honors program.  Prior to joining Regis, she was involved in grant making at Grants Management Associates, served as a pastoral associate for an ethnically diverse parish, and operated a mobile soup kitchen.  More recently, she has participated in international service trips to Peru, Haiti, and Kenya, where she worked side-by-side with people who, with modest material means but abundant wisdom, creativity and hope, are building strong foundations for life.

As program officer at the Sewall Foundation, Lauress will be working with Board, staff, grant seekers and community partners to further all aspects of the Foundation’s priorities, with special focus on the Healthy People Healthy Places program.

Lauress has a proven track record as a creative and critical thinker with a warm and positive personality.  She is also an animal lover who enjoys spending time outdoors.  She and her husband live in Portland.
