The Maine Philanthropy Center is lucky to have a dedicated, engaged board. We like to lift up the amazing volunteer leaders who support and direct the Center's work.
Today we're introducing you to Kati Denham, our newest board member, who took a few moments to speak with us about her work and her interest in the Maine Philanthropy Center.
Let's start off with a couple "getting-to-know-you" type questions: What do you do at BerryDunn, and what is the organization's mission?
I am a tax manager. BerryDunn's mission is to "help each client create, grow, and protect value," and my work responsibilities allow me to further that mission on a daily basis.
The Maine Philanthropy Center is an organization dedicated to professional development and learning. What's one interesting thing you've learned recently? It doesn't have to be work-related; we want the MPC community to get to know you as a person.
On a recent trip to Bermuda, I learned that the pink sand on the beach is caused by coral reef dwelling organisms. They live in shells that, when exposed to sunlight, turn red. The shells collect on the ocean floor and mix with the white sand to create varying degrees of pink sand along the islands southern shore.
What drew you to join the MPC board?
My introduction to the board came via colleagues and family who have worked with the Center and its board for many years. I was attracted to the Center’s mission of supporting effective philanthropy in the state of Maine.
As you begin your tenure as a board member, what are you most excited about?
I am most excited about learning more about the Center, its member organizations, and other board members. Also, I am excited to be a part of helping both grantmaking organizations and nonprofits achieve their goals.
