Day in and day out, the act of truly listening is a practice that needs regular honing. Whether you're a program officer, a communications associate, a grants manager, a researcher, a senior leader, or a manager, communications goes both ways and is integral to your roles and how you show up as a partner, a colleague, or just a better human being.

As many in the sector embark on their own racial equity journey, it's clear that we need to prioritize the value of listening and ensuring that all voices are heard. If philanthropy is to be truly equitable, funders and their nonprofit partners, staff and board working within their individual institutions, and funders collaborating across issue areas must truly hear one another. Why can’t we?

Join our highly interactive program, where we will explore:

Who gets to listen?
Who gets listened to?
Who goes unheard?
How do we create a space where people who are silenced are heard?
How might we acknowledge power and purpose and best create what Rebecca Solnit calls a “democracy of equal audibility”?

What will you learn?

  • Tools and techniques for listening intentionally and without assumption
  • How to develop a new appreciation for listening as a vital tool for creating a more equitable philanthropic practice
