Our free, monthly grant research tutorials are now virtual.

If you are new to grant research, new to our resesearch databases, or just want expand your research prowess, we welcome you to attend one of our monthly tutorials.  These interactive classes are designed to familiarize you with the landscape of foundation giving in Maine and walk you through the basics of researching high-quality prospective funders for your work.

We cover the usage of two research tools vital for your grantseeking toolkit: Maine Philanthropy Center's Directory of Maine Grantmakers and Candid's Foundation Directory Online.   The Directory of Maine Grantmakers is the best source of up-to-date, comprehensive information on Maine funders and contains roughly 400 grantmaker profiles, indexed by focus area, support type, and more.   Candid's Foundation Directory Online is the largest database on U.S. foundations and their grantmaking.  It has a powerful search interface and the ability to find detailed information not only for grantmakers but also grants given and their recipients.

Virtual tutorial registrants will receive day-long access to the online Directory of Maine Grantmakers in order to follow along during the tutorial and continue conducting research during the rest of the day.

All registrants will have full-day access to the online Directory of Maine Grantmakers to follow along in the tutorial and conduct research.

FDO Essential - New Day Pass Policy

Foundation Directory Essential is available for remote access throughout 2021 through our website. Once on the site, you will be asked to create an account and sign up for a day pass. The day pass allows you to use Foundation Directory Essential remotely in a 24-hour window. There is a clock at the top of the screen that will tell you how much time remains in the pass. After the 24 hours, the clock will show the next date on which you can activate a new pass (every 30 days).

Read the Step by Step Guide.

Since you will be able to create an individual account in Foundation Directory Essential, you will have access to the MyFDO features that were not previously available. You’ll be able to create dashboards, tag favorite grantmakers, and save searches, and return to these each time you activate a new pass.

IMPORTANT:  If you activate your FDO Essential day pass more than 24 hours prior to the start of a tutorial, you will not be able to follow along during the demo.  If your are new to FDO, we recommend activating your first day pass either the day of your tutorial (so you can follow along) or after the tutorial when you have ample time to maximize your day pass access.  Tutorials will now be recorded so participants can reference the demo sections.
