Part of a series of informal brown-bag lunch conversations for funders related to equity, inclusion, and diversity.

In 2016, Maine Initiatives launched its Grants for Change program focused on advancing racial justice and racial equity in Maine. Providing three years of general operating support to a cohort of ten organizations, the program seeks to fund and strengthen the diversity of racial justice work happening across the state.

Grants were selected through a deeply participatory grantmaking process, bringing together applicants, donors, stakeholders, and the broader community to engage in the proposal evaluation process and guide grant decisions.

Join us to hear more about the process and what Maine Initiatives staff have learned so far. Learn how the participatory grantmaking process changed Maine Initiatives’ grantmaking. Explore the value of explicitly funding racial justice work. And, hear recommendations for other funders interested in participatory grantmaking or grantmaking for racial equity.
