The Maine Philanthropy Center (MPC) provides leadership to promote philanthropy and increase its impact in Maine. Founded in 1995, MPC is an association of Maine grantmakers – including small and large private foundations, community foundations, public foundations, corporate giving programs, family foundations and philanthropic individuals – who share a commitment to increasing the vitality and visibility of Maine’s philanthropic community.
MPC provides its grantmaker members with services to enhance their effectiveness as funders, increase partnership and collaboration among funders, and bring together foundation and nonprofit leaders to enhance the impact of grants made in Maine and expand philanthropy throughout the state. In addition, MPC’s associate member category is offered to Maine nonprofit organizations, consultants, professional advisors and others with an interest in the philanthropic sector.
To further assist Maine’s grantseeking community, MPC also offers targeted services, including: access to a wide array of resources held at the MPC library in Portland and its network of library partners around the state; classes, programs, and special events; reports analyzing trends in Maine giving; practical publications and online resources; and access to information about local and national foundations, philanthropic sector news, and giving trends.
The Maine Philanthropy Center has evolved from its start as the Maine Grants Information Center (MGIC), which was established in 1995 through a cooperative arrangement between the University of Southern Maine and the Maine Community Foundation.
