Helping Haiti: the Philanthropic Response After Disaster

 

Maine Funders Respond

Within hours after the massive earthquake hit Haiti on January 12th, aid and relief efforts were mobilized. Here's how a few Maine grantmakers are making a difference.

  • Bank of America committed $1 million in relief aid within 24 hours of the earthquake. More.
  • Planet Dog Foundation raised funds for rescue dogs in Haiti.  Read more.
  • As a direct result of MeHAF's challenge grant to the Maine Migrant Health Program to purchase a new mobile medical unit and additional funds provided by Jane's Trust, their old mobile medical van is on it's way to Haiti to help provide medical care through Konbit Sante.   • People's United and its Foundation contributed more than $115,000 to Haitian relief effort.s People's United employees (including those at Maine Bank & Trust, a division of People's United Bank) donated over $57,800 to the Haitian Health Foundation, a humanitarian organization committed to helping the poorest families in Haiti. In addition, employee contributions were matched dollar for dollar with a donation to the Haitian relief efforts of the American Red Cross.
