Please join the Maine Philanthropy Center & the Maine Community Foundation for an informative session with three attorneys and practitioners in the philanthropy world with a depth of experience of the various charitable entities - from creation to implementation to oversight.

About the Speakers

MICHAEL B. ELEFANTE became a partner of Hemenway & Barnes in 1976 and served as Managing Partner of the firm from 1993-1999. His professional practice focuses on representation of individuals and families, and service as a professional fiduciary. He acts as the lead Hemenway & Barnes trustee in a number of family trust complexes, including Jane’s Trust.  Mr. Elefante is a Life Member of the American Law Institute and has been a director of Greater Boston Legal Services since its organization in 1976 and served as president of the Board from 1990 through 1995.  He graduated from Syracuse University and Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

 

MARTHA E. GREENE is a partner at Brann & Isaacson in Lewiston. Her practice is devoted to estate planning, charitable giving and estate and trust administration. Greene is a graduate of Bowdoin College and the University of Maine School of Law, and is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). She is the managing director of the JTG Foundation, one of Maine’s larger private family foundations. Greene also serves on the board of the Maine Philanthropy Center.

 

CAROLYN S. WOLLEN is Counsel in the Verrill Dana Private Clients Group. Previously, Carolyn was an associate and partner for 20 years in the New York City law firm of Davidson, Dawson & Clark and then had a solo practice with offices in New York City and Portland. Her practice is focused on estate planning for individuals and the administration of trusts and estates. She has devoted a significant portion of her time as a Betterment Fund trustee, a private charitable foundation and as a board member for various Maine nonprofits.  She received her law degree from the University of Virginia and LLM in taxation from NYU.
